North West England and the North Wales coast can offer some of the best links golf in the world. The Open courses of Birkdale, Lytham and Hoylake are world famous in links golf but travel along these coasts and you will find lesser known courses such as Siloth, Wallasey and Harlech. The scenery is every bit as spectacular and the golf every bit as good as their bigger more famous cousins. An hour’s drive from the centre of London finds you on the Kent coast which also boasts some quality links courses with Sandwich being the most famous of the Cinq Ports golf courses. All around the coast of the British Isles you will find some quality links golf courses set in the dunes and along cliff top locations.

Links Golf and Scotland go hand in hand, it is the historical home of golf, where golf is a way of life rather than an expensive pastime. Open Championship Links golf venues such as Troon, Turnberry and Muirfield conjure great memories to all true golf fans and St Andrews, the home of Golf and The R&A, is a place where all golfers should visit at least once in their lifetime.

Ireland, both North and South, again have a tremendous range of top class links golf courses along the long and rugged shoreline, The North West of Ireland won the prestigious IAGTO Best European golf destination in 2011, quite an achievement considering the quality of golf courses it had to beat. The southern links golf courses of ball and ol have been firm favourites for many visiting golfers for years. With the success of Irish golf at the professional level, links golf in Ireland is now getting the recognition it truly deserves.

With travel restrictions for all but essential reasons effectively stopped, golfers with the “wander lust” will be looking at UK & Ireland, (probably something they have not done in years!!). There are literally hundreds and hundreds of golf courses on your doorstep and you will discover, (or re-discover) some real gems. Language will not be an issue and everywhere will have local delicacies both food and drink to satisfy every palate.
