Welcome to the latest newsletter all about our latest trip to the superb country of Belgium.
Before we start I will say that my 1st visit to Belgium was very pleasant one and would recommend the Golf courses, the hotels, the various cities we visited, overall a great week and met some fantastic people.
This is our week in Belgium.
Monday Started off with the group meeting at Brussels airport, where we picked up our transport for the week
1st Day – Monday
The first golf course we visited has one of the best clubhouses I have seen at the Golf & Country Club Oudenaarde.
- The Castle Course – Par 71
- The Anchor Course – Par 72
We played the Castle course which has great bunkers and various water hazards which defend the greens,
This course finishes with the fantastic backdrop of the clubhouse, just make sure you’re not about to chip on the 18th green on the hour as the clock on the clubhouse will produce a superb chime.
Our first hotel of the tour was at the Leopold Oudenaarde which is within walking distance of the city and overlooking the River Scheldt, this is a stylish and modern hotel.
From the website
“The Leopold Hotel Oudenaarde effortlessly fuses elegance, practicality and a fantastic service for the ultimate hotel experience”
2nd day – Tuesday
Golf meeting History, Located in the Flemish hills and surrounded by History of WW1, Palingbeek will leave you not just having enjoyed a great game of golf, but with a full sense of the events that took place during WW1 as the site itself is built on the historic battlefields of WWI
We were introduced to the Golf Professional, The director of golf & his wife who proceeded to play golf with us, and what a great golf course this is, a par 72, but it is during your round you will find out just what happened all those years ago in WW1 More information can be found on the Palingbeek website please click here
Following on from an excellent game of golf at a superb course we continued our visit to the Menin Gate a memorial to the Missing, This war memorial in Ypres, Belgium is dedicated to the British and Commonwealth soldiers who were killed in the Ypres Salient of World War I and whose graves are unknown.
This gate shows the names of over 54,000 missing soldiers. At 8pm each day of the year the Last post, the final salute to the fallen, is played in honour of the memory of the soldiers who died in the Ypres all those years ago.
The evening of Tuesday we stayed in the city of Antwerp at The Crown Plaza, Antwerp which has one of the best Cathedrals in Belgium and some fantastic restaurants.
3rd Day – Wednesday
This is a par 72 course and has the Cleydael Castle close by, you can view this castle coming up the 18th
Also, this club has all the practice facilities you require.
Visiting Cleydael you will not be disappointed.

4th Day – Thursday
After leaving the comfort of Martin’s Rentmeesterij hotel we transferred to our 4th golf course named Millennium Golf Club, this course came a very close second to Pallinbeek in my opinion, another well maintained golf course, another par 72 course which is one of the most challenging courses in Belgium.
Thomas Pieters would recommend this course as he was a youth player at Millennium for a few years.
Also at Millennium, there is a 9 hole Compact Course and excellent practice facility’s.

Thursday evening we stayed at another outstanding Martin’s hotel called Martin’s Klooster which is in the centre of Leuven, less than 30 minutes from Brussels. Please click here for more information on Martin’s Klooster hotel
5th Day – Friday
Last day of the Flanders golf tour and after a short transfer we went to The National one of the newest golf courses in Belgium and a lot of work is still going on, I will say this is not an easy course and it still has a little work to be completed, I would like to revisit this course in a few years time once it has grown up.
