Every Two weeks we will be having a promotion to showcase a particular venue or a Golf Course or it could be a Hotel.
This weeks Showcase is Real Club de Golf Guadalmina
Guadalmina was discovered in 1933 by Norberto Goizueta, who sailed with his family on his boat along the coast. He decided to live there. He first grew maize and after the war, a special type of grass, because he already had plans to build a golf course,
The grounds of Guadalmina is relatively narrow at the coast and go inland. Along the ground to the west, lies the Rio Guadalmina. Located on the coast, most of the holes are located further inland.
The golf club was founded in 1959. An 18-hole golf course right away was constructed which have only a few holes sea. The club now has over 2000 members from seventeen different nationalities.
At Guadalimina there are 2 courses The North and the South Courses plus a Putting Green and Driving Range.
This is the oldest course, is renowned for its difficulty, thus making it more suitable for experienced players. Fairways are narrow and well protected by old trees requiring more straight shots.
South Guadalmina, the first 18 holes of the 45 that make up the golf course of Guadalmina, was opened in 1959 and is the second oldest in the Costa del Sol. It is characterised by the fairways that wind through the shade of ancient trees.
The fairways are wide and are virtually free of rough. In 2002 the Guadalmina Sur course was completely renovated and is now, to all intents and purposes, a new course with new tees including “Super-Seniors”. The greens were rebuilt and the fairways re-seeded.

Guadalmina North is considered less complicated than Guadalmina Sur. Although it covers more ground, is more undulating and contains more trees and water hazards.
The Guadalmina River divides the course from north to south and comes into play on the 17th. If this were not enough, there are lakes on holes 7, 9, 11 and 18. The course was designed by Folco Nardi and opened in 1972. It is shorter and Hiller than the south course and has more water obstacles.
The course requires straight drives down the middle of the fairways as failure to do so may have one ending up in one of the numerous water hazards hidden in the rough.
